Plein Air Paintings and Drawings

The Ghislaine Howard Studio Gallery is situated in Glossop on the edge of the Dark Peak, close to the magnificent windswept plateau of Kinder Scout. The moorland around the town was well known to the famous philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein, who lived here for a brief but significant period of his life.

The particular qualities of this landscape with its dramatic shifts of light and shadow and its constantly changing weather and moods make it a tremendous environment for any artist whose ambition is to create works of art, not in the studio, but in the open landscape – en plein air.
